A brand new initiative was introduced this autumn, which will hopefully be repeated every other year into the future. Give the Gift of Gear is a donation drive that was originally thought up by Dillon Cooper, who then brought the concept to the Senior Round Square group. The idea was to have families bring in all the old sports gear that they had grown out of or didn't use anymore, including things like helmets, bicycles, cleats, and even skateboards. The gear would then be donated to a less fortunate community centre or school, where it would be put to proper use by those who might not be able to have it otherwise.
Specifically, the gear was donated to the RayCam Community Centre, which is located in the Downtown Eastside. It's a small community centre but offered a lot of opportunities for the many people who went there, and we saw that they were undoubtedly very grateful for the gear! Thanks to all the people who donated items for this cause.
